Safranbolu, Turkey

Safranbolu is a little town famous for its well-preserved Ottoman era houses and architecture.

It is located in Northern Turkey ~4.5 hours away from Istanbul and ~2.5 hours away from Ankara (by car). It is a great 24-hour resting area for road trips among green Black Sea region, popular Istanbul and southern Turkey which is home to magnificent Cappadocia.

The name of the town can be translated as "Saffron City". You can expect to taste saffron in any of traditional food and drinks offered in small traditional restaurants. Scroll for more photos from the town.

Some of the houses in the town are used as hotels. You need to stay in one for the best Safranbolu experience. The other option is to stay at a nearby chain hotel if you prefer that.
